Fault tolerant on-board networks with priorities

چکیده
We consider on-board networks in satellites interconnecting entering signals (inputs) to amplifiers (outputs). The connections are made via expensive switches, each of which has four available links. The paths connecting inputs to outputs should be link-disjoint. Some of the input signals, called priorities, must be connected to the amplifiers which provide the best quality of service (that is, to some specific outputs). In practice, amplifiers are prone to fail and the faults cannot be repaired. Therefore, extra outputs have to be built into the network to ensure that every input can be routed to operational outputs. Given three integers, n, p, and f , we would like to design a low cost network (where the network cost is proportional to the total number of switches) such that it is possible to route all n inputs to n operational amplifiers, and to route the p priorities to the p best quality amplifiers for any set of f faulty and p best-quality amplifiers. Let R(n, p, f) be the minimum number of switches of such a network. We prove here that R(n, p, f) ≤ n+f 2 dlog2 pe + 5 2 (n − p) + g(f) with g a function depending only on f . We then compute R(n, p, f) exactly for a few small values of p and f . keywords: network design, on-board network, fault tolerance, vulnerability

متن کاملAn Adaptive Fault-Tolerant Communication Scheme for Body Sensor Networks
A high degree of reliability for critical data transmission is required in body sensor networks (BSNs). However, BSNs are usually vulnerable to channel impairments due to body fading effect and RF interference, which may potentially cause data transmission to be unreliable. In this paper, an adaptive and flexible fault-tolerant communication scheme for BSNs, namely AFTCS, is proposed. AFTCS ado...

h Conclusions Advanced satellite on-board baseband switching processors have Time-Space-Time (T-S-T) structures which are similar to the terrestrial switching networks (SwNw). Generally, the satellite systems require higher reliability than ground equipment because of more severe environment and lack of repair. This paper proposes fault-tolerant satellite on-board TS-T Sw-Nw with multiple separ...

The methodology for the design and testing of fault tolerant systems implemented into an FPGA platform with different types of diagnostic techniques is presented in this paper. Basic principles of partial dynamic reconfiguration are described together with their impact on the fault tolerance features of the digital design implemented into the SRAM-based FPGA. The methodology includes detection ...
متن کاملRecent Results on Fault-Tolerance Consensus in Message-Passing Networks
This paper surveys recent results on fault-tolerant consensus in message-passing networks. We focus on two categories of works: (i) new problem formulations (including input domain, fault model, network model...etc.), and (ii) practical applications. For the second part, we focus on Crash Fault-Tolerant (CFT) systems that use Paxos or Raft, and Byzantine Fault-Tolerant (BFT) systems. We also br...
